Deck Notes:
The idea is to disrupt with Hanting, Derange, Lunatic Erupt, etc... to throw
people off their game, keep them too busy to take your power toys, and
weaken vamps to the point that Anatole can drop them with a Sniper Shot.
Then you Drop the Madmans Quill at supperior and send the horde of bleeders
in.
It worked OK. Pretty slow going really. I only managed to get 1 oust per
game, in each game (and Ben P. was kind of enough to toss me into my 1 VP
with a Kindred Restructure in round 1). But, strangely, 1 oust per game was
enough to get me 2nd seed and the prelims and a win in the finals.
Storyline Notes:
In addition to being a good game, the finals was pretty cool from a
"Storyline" angle as well. Hightlights...
Huitzilopochtli got driven insane by the Malks with a Lunatic eruption, and
kept attacking the Giovanni throwing conflagrations at Gratiano and Lucita.
Finally, in one turn, he learned Fortitude, punched out Lucita, Freak Drive,
Summoned the Great Beast (blowing up), an the Great Beast promptly ousted
the Giovanni with Legal Manipulations. A thing of beauty.
Other Storyline worthy moments include the duels between Anatole and Fatima.
Anatole was fending off the Assamites with his Snipers Rifle. Twice Fatima
used Mask of 1000 faces to impersonate one of her (weaker) palls after
Anatole had declared the block. Both times they traded Ivory Bow and Rifle
shots, with Anatole going to torpor both times, and both of them falling on
the second encounter (in the final seconds of the round).
Gotta work in those signature characters...
Tournament Notes:
Thanks to Ben Spaulding for preserving the honor of all things Ben by at
least getting a draw with Kevin at the table of 4 Bens.
Congrats to Matt Hirsch for getting top seed into the finals and 2nd overall
with his unwholly alliance of the Bali, Salubri, and Great Beast.
And thanks, of course, to Ben P. for running the show.
-Ben S.
The Eye of Hazimel had little to no impact in the tournament, and
nobody bothered to take it in the finals. I even implemented an
incentive plan whereby those who controlled the Eye and were not
ousted at the end of a game got to take home a bonus Eye of Hazimel.
The only player to cash in on this was Ben Spaulding, who did so
twice. The only other player I know of who controlled the Eye was
Sergio Massuda, but his Agaitas was not ready for the responsibility,
and ended up having the Eye blow up in his face.
Also note that Todd Richter was only able to show up in time for
rounds 2 and 3, yet still made the finals. Nice job, Todd!
(As an aside, is this permissible in a V:EKN sanctioned tournament?
That is, having a player enter the tournament after the first round?)
Thanks again to all who attended, and thanks to Danger Planet for
hosting us!
- Ben Peal
