Cull The Herd: Boston Tournament Report
We had 8 people show up (including me), which is more than I was
expecting, given the Thanksgiving weekend. 8 was also a very
convenient number, as it meant that we could have one of each of
the pre-con clans. Yeah, I put the !Ventrue and Assamites back
in the mix, 'cause there was enough demand for 'em. We also dropped
it to two rounds plus the finals, as Rich had to leave early, and
'cause we got off to a late start 'cause YMG didn't open until noon.
I was quite happy with the format, as all the decks seemed competitive,
even the !Ventrue and Assamites. Despite their 0VP totals, Scrib,
Tricia, and Rich were all quite competitive. It would've been cool
to see how a third round would have gone. If you're looking to do
a sealed or draft event sometime, I recommend trying out this format.
Oh yeah. The format. :) It was sealed pre-cons plus 4 booster-
drafted packs. Your 4 packs matched the expansion from whence your
starter came. There were two draft pods, with 4 players in each pod.
Of the 4 players in each pod, 2 two were Sabbat and 2 were Final Nights.
I'm not sure if doing all Final Nights and all Sabbat War would have
been a better idea or a worse idea. Perhaps it would have been better,
as there was a lot of groaning about the quality of boosters that were
being passed around the table. ;)
The final standings:
Sergio Massoda (Settites) - 4 VP in prelims, 3 VP in finals
